August 21, 1994, we are petting my first horse. She is 8 years old, has a satiny coat the most beautiful eyes and she is mine. She was no longer wanted and wound up in the “Kill Pen”. She was purchased from the kill pen to be a child’s riding horse but she was not a child’s horse. In a matter of minutes, she will be named Lucky and she will come home with us. Lucky is now the official mascot of Misfit Acres Inc. Located six miles south of Good Thunder, Misfit Acres Inc is a safe haven for homeless horses. When we learned about the live slaughter industry via Lucky’s life, we chose to get actively involved in equine welfare. Our love of horses combined with the research we have done regarding equine welfare led us to start our own equine sanctuary apply for incorporation status in February of 2004. As of March 18, we have been granted federal tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service allowing us to issue receipts to anyone donating to our horses. Horses that arrive at Misfit Acres will live out their remaining years here. We believe they enjoy being here as much as we enjoy having them. They seem to know that they are the “stars” here and most of the cars that drive in are visitors for them. Misfit Acres welcomes visitors - please feel free to give us a call at the contact info listed below. |

Webmaster
We want you to meet our Webmaster, Jeanne. Many, many people have complimented us on our wonderful website. We want to know who is the brain behind this site.Bruce and I didn't know anything about designing or maintaining a website but we wanted one. I asked around on some of the e-groups I was on about how to get a website and Jeanne stepped up.The email she sent us read "Hi, I’m the one who will be building your website. What would you like the site to do?" And here it is!! Right along with about 7-8 emails a week to Jeanne saying "Jeanne can we change this, Jeanne can we add this". Right, Jeanne!!
Jeanne adds Misfit Acres to a growing list of website she has created including Safe Sanctuary, Animal Welfare Association, Scanlan Horses, Running J Artworks, Crawler Welding, The Horse Corner, Manes N Tales, Long Creek Designs. She is developing a business creating sites for other businesses and also does transcription as her 'real' job.
