On November 17,
2007, Cookie let us know she was ready to go to the Rainbow Bridge to be
reunited with Kerri.
We will miss her terribly. Misfit Acres now has it's littlest Angel.
Thank You to
RESCUE
for their donation for Cookie's hoof care -
We are sure you will
recall the sad story of the
death of 36
year old Kerri
of Minnesota on
January 30. Kerri was a wonderful woman and an avid animal lover. In
addition to her children, she leaves behind many rescued animals. Her
family has stepped up to care for many of her animals and her children.
One little horse had no where to go. Misfit Acres was called to take in
this little girl. Kerri had recently rescued this pony in late
2005. Cookie is in desperate need of hoof care but Kerri’s life ended
before she could have provided the farrier work this little pony needs.
As we looked for more information on this sad situation, we discovered
this was the same Kerri who was a member of our internet rescue chat
group. We had spoken on the phone on numerous occasions relating to
horse rescue as well as emailing but we had never met face to face. As
you know, when using internet chat groups, last names are rarely used
and a person’s location is often quite vague.
On Sunday, February 19, Cookie was delivered to Misfit Acres by a
network of caring friends and volunteers. It was both a tearful and
joyful day. Knowing the special connection we learned we had to Kerri,
we will be designing a plaque in her honor to be displayed at Misfit
Acres.
As you will see from the photo, Cookie is a friendly, sweet little horse
who loves attention. Other than her hoof condition, she appears quite
healthy.
